Qatar Airways will begin flying to Sydney from March 1st 2016, in a move which sees the Oneworld member and de facto Qantas partner lining up against its ‘Gulf three’ siblings and rivals, Emirates and Etihad. The daily flights between Sydney and Doha will operate on a Boeing 777-300ER with fully-flat business class beds. Flight QR909 will depart Sydney at 10.20pm to reach Doha at 5.05am the next day, with onwards connections to London and Europe. The companion flight QR908 is set for wheels-up from Doha at 8.10pm for an 6.05pm arrival into Sydney. Sydney joins Melbourne and Perth on Qatar’s Australian network map despite previous protests by airline CEO Akbar Al Baker that Sydney Airport’s curfew would stymie fast connections from Doha.
